THANKSGIVING SONGS
Halloween is over and we should all be concentrating on and getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving. Instead, what are we doing as we shop the stores and drive down the street? We are listening to Christmas tunes, we are seeing poinsettia flowers everywhere and other Christmas décor.
It seems to come earlier, or at least its advertised earlier, each and every year. I remember mom saying, "santy clause comes at the end of the thanksgiving day parade". He is THEN in town, so you better watch out, you better not cry. Well, santa is already here! He hit the malls in early novemeber.
Yesterday, while walking around downtown Disney and looking at their Christmas tree and other decorations, walking thru the shops and listening to the Christmas music, and admiring ornaments and other Disney Christmas items, I started to think. Why do we always do this earlier and earlier each year?
The answer came to me. Its simple. We have no thanksgiving music! Think about Halloween: The Monster Mash, Purple People Eater, The Devil went down to Georgia, The Addams Family, The Munsters, etc etc. Yes, I have a CD. Yes, I play it during the month of October in my car.
So once the Halloween music ends, all we need are a few Thanksgiving songs to fill the dead air until after we carve our turkey. Then the jingle bell rock can begin. Whats wrong with a turkey song? or maybe one about yams? Giving thanks for all we have? a nice sappy little tune. I'm sure someone can even come up with a cranberry sauce song and lets not forget a nice little ditty of turkey vs ham.
There you have it. Somebody pull out your guitar or drag out the piano. Get your pad and paper and start jotting down lyrics and we can get this thing done
